General Peter Schoomaker, US Army (Retired), was recalled to active duty from retirement by the Secretary of Defense and the President on 1 August 2003 as the 35th Chief of Staff, Army, and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2003 until 2007.

Prior to his first retirement, he served as Commander in Chief, U.S. Special Operations Command from 1997 to 2000. General Schoomaker spent over 35 years in a variety of command and staff assignments with both conventional and special operations forces.

Now released from active duty, General Schoomaker advises on defense matters and serves on the boards of several public, private and non-profit companies, as well as the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, an organization dedicated to educating the children of fallen special operations Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.



Ambassador Nancy Soderberg

Nancy has over 20 years of experience in foreign policy, and has served on four presidential campaigns, in the United States Senate, in the White House and at the United Nations.

Nancy has a deep understanding of policy-making and negotiations at the highest levels of government and the United Nations. She has promoted democracy and conflict resolution worldwide and continues to do so. Nancy achieved international recognition for her efforts to promote peace in Northern Ireland and also advised the President on policies toward China, Japan, Russia, the Balkans, Haiti, as well as on a variety of conflicts in Africa. In 1997, President Bill Clinton appointed Nancy to serve as Alternate Representative to the United Nations as a Presidential Appointee, with the rank of Ambassador.

Nancy is a published author of The Superpower Myth: The Use and Misuse of American Might (2005), and latterly, The Prosperity Agenda What the World Wants from America-and What We Need in Return (written with Brian Katulis, 2008).

Jim is a 24-year veteran of Capitol Hill, with a long and distinguished career focusing on national security and international military issues.

Jim served as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and is credited with creating the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities (TUTC), of which he subsequently became Chairman. In the 2008 session of Congress, he served as the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces.

In that year, Jim was awarded the Jefferson-Lincoln Award from the Panetta Institute in recognition of his bipartisan efforts, independent judgment, and dedication to good government. Jim’s knowledge of the workings of the US Government is of significant value to New Century.

Matt’s career spans the US Army, US Secret Service and US Foreign Service. His most recent role was as President of the US-ASEAN Business Council.

Matt's responsibilities on the Business Council included conducting business missions to meet with senior leaders of the major Southeast Asian Economies, assisting American firms engage with Government officials and helping them understand political risk.

Most recently, as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of State between 2001 and 2004, Matt supervised the conduct of relations with 11 Southeast Asian and 12 Pacific States. His other roles include Member of the Policy Planning Staff, and Deputy Special Representative for Dayton Peace Accords, where he implemented aspects of the Accords dealing with international civilian police, apprehension of war criminals, and employment of NATO forces. Matt’s knowledge of ASEAN affairs is of significant import to the strategic development of New Century.

Mike is a retired Army Special Forces officer with twenty-seven years of active and reserve military experience as an Enlisted, Non-commissioned Officer and Commissioned Officer in a variety of command and staff positions within the Special Operations Community.

Mike has served at various Army Posts in the United States and Asia and has deployed multiple times to the Middle East and Africa. As a military fellow, he served as the National Security Advisor to Congressman Jim Saxton, while Congressman Saxton was the Chairman of the Terrorism and Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee.

He has years of experience working with Congressional and Pentagon leaders on a variety of issues related to National Security. Mike’s many deployments include commanding troops in Haiti during OPERATION UPHOLD DEMOCRACY, in Africa during OPERATION FOCUS RELIEF as well as in combat during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and as the Iraqi Special Operations Forces, Senior Advisor during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Mike’s experience includes working with foreign governments, other government agencies, non-governmental agencies and private volunteer organizations.
